Assistant or Associate Professor — Quantum Materials

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston (UH) invites applications for a Presidential Frontier Faculty tenure-track or tenured Assistant/Associate Professor faculty position beginning in Fall 2024. The Presidential Frontier Faculty program is a university-wide integrated interdisciplinary hiring campaign that is overseen by central university leadership, and encompasses hiring a large cohort of convergence research faculty to work on health, energy, sustainability, and security.

Topics of interest include the broad area of quantum materials. Experimental development and characterization of quantum materials are particular areas of emphasis. Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in an appropriately related field by the time their appointment begins. Successful candidates must have a strong record of scholarship and be able to establish and sustain a robust, externally funded research program that will be synergistic with our materials science programs in Mechanical Engineering and Physics. They are expected to establish a dynamic and internationally recognized research program and to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Furthermore, they must have demonstrated an ability to conduct outstanding independent research and show promise for excellent teaching, mentoring, and entrepreneurship. The department is home to over 30 full-time faculty, ~90 doctoral students, ~150 master students, and ~1,000 undergraduate students. Information about the department is available at www.me.uh.edu.
